The Marimekko Rusakko pillow is adorned with a bold print designed by Aino-Maija Metsola. The decorative cushion has a removable cover made of cotton panama, complete with a zipper closure, and a separate inner cushion. Half of the cotton used to make the product is recycled.
Designed in 2021, the ornamental, somewhat abstract Rusakko print nods to folklore, only revealing its motif upon further inspection: the print depicts a big hare crouching amongst the shrubs, ready to leap at any moment – the name Rusakko translates to “brown hare”. Aino Maija Metsola drew the original design on paper with a bottle pen marker and a paintbrush, after which she digitally coloured it with vibrant, strong hues.
