The Marimekko Seireeni teacup features an abstract motif designed by Maija Isola in 1964. She created the pattern after a trip to Greece, where she felt inspired by the movements of the sea. The name of the pattern, which translates to “siren”, is a reference to Greek mythology: sirens were creatures thought to lure sailors to shipwreck with their beautiful singing.
Made of brown stoneware, the Seireeni teacup is part of Sami Ruotsalainen’s clean-lined Oiva tableware collection that suits both casual and festive settings. The cup has a shorter, wider shape that is perfect not only for tea but also for hot chocolate with whipped cream or even for serving a lovely dessert. Yum!
